Had to do a quick art piece for my Faith and Learning class, so I used the tutorial on abduzeedo.com to compose this. Probably will end up in the scraps.
The theme is centered around the concept of death through silence. There was an idea in our book that the best way to kill something is to not acknowledge it. In short you forget about it, and therefore others are less inclined to think about it. Over enough time and enough participants you could make any form of knowledge disappear I guess. Kind of like brain washing people if you really think about it. I guess that means ounce again ignorance is bliss. But are you really happy if you're living a lie?
PS Why is this burning in space if there is no oxygen
*edit: Did a major rework on this by using everyones feedback. Made it feel a bit more spacious by adding the large amounts of whitespace and extending the spark aura. Also threw out the text because it was distracting.
Good question, I didn't explain this very well. In some cultures (mainly Asian) the butterfly is very symbolic of death or bad omens. I think I'm actually going to play with this and make the background look more like outer space to symbolize emptiness and silence a little more. Typography still needs some more work 2.
Here is an excerpt from a wikipedia article on butterfly symbolism.
"According to the “Butterflies” chapter in Kwaidan: Stories and Studies of Strange Things, by Lafcadio Hearn, a butterfly is seen as the personification of a person's soul; whether they be living, dying, or already dead. One Japanese superstition says that if a butterfly enters your guestroom and perches behind the bamboo screen, the person whom you most love is coming to see you. However, large numbers of butterflies are viewed as bad omens. When Taira no Masakado was secretly preparing for his famous revolt, there appeared in Kyoto so vast a swarm of butterflies that the people were frightened — -thinking the apparition to be a portent of coming evil."
Yeah, typography needs to be really well planned or it ends up looking shallow. Usually a good typography piece plans for the words first, then the graphic content. Unlike my method I used here

The butter legion- a socialist movement/mass colab project I started, to trigger artistic change and evolution in Da artists (mainly my watchers), to make them more active and dedicated on DA. Now 170 people strong and growing... A "dangerous cult"? a "new religion"? "artistic version of fight club" or "communist movement"? You decide!
Hello there! This news article is the result of a thumb share thread I posted few days ago on the dA forum along with pictures from my favorites. I hope you enjoy them.
